Juventud del Barro – Teens of the Clay: Remembering Tradition through Geology and Clay is a collaborative pilot program between Four Mile Historic Park and the Mizel Arts and Culture Center at the JCC (MACC). Designed for teens ages 13–18, with a focus on Latin communities and those interested in Latin culture, the program combines geology, ceramics, and cultural heritage through hands-on learning. Participants explore geology and soil sampling at Four Mile Historic Park, then create ceramic works inspired by traditional Oaxacan barro negro techniques at the MACC, with bilingual instruction and Spanish interpretation throughout. The program culminates in two public exhibitions showcasing participants' work and serves as a culturally responsive model for integrating art, science, and culture through cross-sector collaboration.

This is a free, fully funded program. There is no cost to participate; however, registration and attendance is required.

Cohort Selection
Participants will register for one cohort only. Please select the cohort offered in the language you prefer.

Cohort 1 – English

• Participants in Cohort 1 are required to attend:
• Sunday, September 20, 1:00-3:00pm: Four Mile Historic Park Hike & Geology Lesson
• Sunday, October 4, 11:00am-1:00pm: Mizel Arts and Culture Center at the JCC (MACC) Ceramics Workshop
• March 1–31: Artwork featured in the MACC Gallery Exhibition
• April 1–30: Artwork featured in the Four Mile Historic Park Exhibition
• Opening Reception: Attendance at your cohort's exhibition opening is required (date and time will be shared with participants).

Cohort 2 – Spanish
Participants in Cohort 2 are required to attend:

• Sunday, September 27, 1:00-3:00pm: Four Mile Historic Park Hike & Geology Lesson
• Sunday, October 11, 11:00am-1:00pm: Mizel Arts and Culture Center at the JCC (MACC) Ceramics Workshop
• March 1–31: Artwork featured in the MACC Gallery Exhibition
• April 1–30: Artwork featured in the Four Mile Historic Park Exhibition
• Opening Reception: Attendance at your cohort's exhibition opening is required (date and time will be shared with participants).

Juventud del Barro - Teens of the Clay: Remembering Tradition through Geology and Clay was supported by the Innovation and Collaboration Grant from The Collaborative of the SCFD—a nonprofit membership organization comprised of SCFD funded arts, culture, and science nonprofits. The Collaborative established the Innovation and Collaboration Incubator Grant to foster cross-organizational partnerships to develop innovative, dynamic programs that serve and expand community access across Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Jefferson, and Douglas Counties.

Participation Commitment
Because this program is fully funded and space is limited, participants are expected to attend all required activities associated with their selected cohort, including:

• The Four Mile Historic Park hike and geology lesson.
• The MACC ceramics workshop.
• The opening reception for the exhibition featuring their artwork.

Participation in all program activities ensures a complete learning experience and helps foster a collaborative cohort environment.
